DTAH is currently preparing a master plan update for Wascana Centre, an exceptional place extremely rare in Canada and indeed the world. Established in 1962, Wascana is a stellar example of long-standing public stakeholder cooperation, and is home to the Saskatchewan Provincial Legislature, University of Regina, City parks, and other federal, provincial, and municipal institutions. The result is an area of immeasurable value as a place of work, education, recreation and nature preservation for the City of Regina and the Province of Saskatchewan.

This tenth sequential master plan is directed by the Wascana Act, provincial legislation that guides all projects within
Wascana Centre. The master plan has a 100-year planning horizon.

Wascana Centre as a place encapsulates much of the history of the province, from prehistoric times as the bottom of a great inland sea, through early indigenous occupation, farming settlement, the expression of great aspiration in the government of the land, the making of a treed oasis and recreational area, to the current foresighted vision to meet five noble purposes, followed by their implementation over the last forty-nine years. This tenth plan simply seeks to continue that vision, tailored in small but relevant ways to the needs of today, as its predecessors have done in increments over the years.

Roger du Toit, who is leading the effort, has served as architect planner and chair of the Wascana Centre Authority’s Architectural Advisory Committee since 1982.
