DTAH’s landscape master plan for the internationally recognized Banff Centre, located in the heart of Alberta’s Rocky Mountains, focuses on creating a sympathetic connection with the sensitive mountain ecology.
The master plan sites several new buildings, including new administration, food services and conference facilities. The terraced mountain campus is reconnected by replacing roadways through the core with a pedestrian trail network, complete with an outdoor amphitheatre and more intimate meeting spaces. The landscape design also maximizes the campus’ visual connection with its stunning natural context.
Sustainability is a core element of the landscape plan, with a new stormwater handling system that cleans site run-off to protect the rivers running through the National Park. Additionally, the planting scheme uses native species to reduce environmental impact and the need for irrigation.
