Cayuga Bridge

This project recommends design enhancements for a new replacement bridge across the Grand River in the small Ontario community of Cayuga. It is in an important heritage context and a two-day workshop was held to gain community input to the design.

Design strategies include maximizing transparency of the bridge railing to encourage viewing opportunities to the water, introduction of a “ripple” pattern into the railing that responds to the river setting, a regular rhythm of pedestrian-scale lighting, and Ontario stone-clad approach walls with identification text to respond to the local context and enhance the pedestrian experience.
