Dane Avenue Child Care
DTAH was engaged by Duflaw Realty Ltd. to execute a child care centre, paid for by Section 37 funds, on lands adjacent to their multi-phase Treviso development near Dufferin Street and Lawrence Avenue.
The child care includes the provision of space for 62 children, including infants, toddlers and preschoolers. A glazed entrance vestibule leads to the main daylit circulation spine of the building, flanked to the north by the administrative offices and storage areas, and to the south by the kitchen, staff room and support areas. The southern wing incorporates playrooms for infants and toddlers, while the western wing houses the two preschool playrooms. Corridors are generously sized to accommodate gross motor play, and the kitchen design includes a children’s counter for food-related learning.
The playrooms are distinguished by exposed heavy-timber beams, columns and wood decking, while the lower administration areas are topped by a green roof. Age-appropriate naturalized outdoor play areas flank each of the playrooms, and storm water is managed through landscaped swales.
