Dundas Street Bus Rapid Transit

This project lays the framework for a 19 km bus rapid transit line along Dundas Street in north Oakville, connecting to the existing GO station at QEW and Trafalgar. DTAH is responsible for the urban design concept and the architectural design of the transit shelters.

The shelters are conceived as “places within the public realm” that are prominent, well-designed and inviting; that go beyond the typical bus stop structure to symbolize the future importance of transit on our streets. The shelter provides a primary glazed enclosure anchored by a stone masonry “community wall” with seating, on-demand heating panels in a wood soffit, and state-of-the-art electronic information/communication systems. The shelter canopy extends to cover an outdoor waiting and bicycle parking zone, framed by a landscaped planter/seating wall that connects back to the intersection crosswalk. Full accessibility is provided throughout.
