East Hamilton Waterfront Link Pedestrian Bridge
This 220m pedestrian/cycle bridge passes over an ecologically sensitive wetland and a major highway at the foot of the Red Hill Creek river valley, connecting Hamilton’s trail system to the Lake Ontario waterfront. It is designed to touch the valley as lightly and sensitively as possible, with timeless, natural lines and building materials mimicking the natural surroundings.
The bridge deck, a continuous curving radius, features a tilted arch as the focus at its longest span across the creek. Other features include gateways at either end and at three significant access points in the middle. Consistent signage and fine details make the scale of the bridge appropriate for pedestrians.
