Fairway Road Bridge
Fairway Road is a new arterial roadway connecting the Cities of Kitchener and Cambridge over the historic Grand River. The road and bridge are designed as an integrated composition that offers spectacular views of the setting.
The bridge is a four-span concrete structure featuring a gently curving arch profile. The deck overhangs the girders to create a strong shadow line that visually lightens the bridge. Piers are shaped to accentuate the vertical dimension and maximize visual lightness. Other enhancements include custom railings with a picket pattern inspired by the rippling water below, an ipe wood handrail and local stone approach walls. Streetscape treatment includes deciduous trees, decorative light standards and feature planted areas.
