Queen’s University Avenue Restoration
Queen’s University in Kingston prides itself on its long and prestigious history. The campus tries to showcase local heritage sites, drawing students in and creating a unique campus identity and culture.
University Avenue, once the most important street in the campus, has fallen into disrepair over time due to heavy use and ad hoc upgrading and renovations. This restoration project recaptures the former grandeur of the street while taking advantage of the opportunity for change.
The improvements include removing the existing median, expanding the sidewalks to accommodate heavy pedestrian traffic, new street tree plantings, and new sites for gathering, commemoration and public art.
