DTAH have been engaged at Queen’s University more or less continuously since the mid ‘90’s beginning with the Campus Development Plan, which was also revisited by DTAH in 2004.
Landscape design at the campus has included the streetscape for University Avenue, the campus spine, and landscapes for the business, law, medicine and engineering schools. The landscape for Queen’s School of Business, Goodes Hall mediates between a former vocational school and the new faculty addition. The Campus Plan also identified the old Medical Quadrangle as an opportunity to re-capture the original spirit of the campus’ academic quadrangles.
The firm also designed the landscape for Tindall Field sports track and field and Kingston Field, both over underground parking garages. The Tindall Field project is a good example of campus intensification that makes best use of available lands. The former parking has been relocated underground, and a new athletic field developed above. This releases a large site that will be developed for much-needed academic uses.
