Varsity Centre Plaza and Streetscape

The Varsity Centre is a multi-purpose facility that is used primarily to meet the needs of University of Toronto students, as a competition and practice venue for intercollegiate sports and intramural teams. The landscape aspect includes two plazas and the surrounding streetscape landscape.

Varsity Plaza, located at the corner of Bloor Street West and Devonshire Place, acts as an open and welcoming forecourt for both the new Stadium and the greater campus beyond. An accessible upper terrace with large flat benches for resting provides a slightly elevated overlook of the field and campus skyline while articulating the frontage of the stadium. The lower plaza, adjacent to the sidewalk, offers a shady meet-and-greet space below an informal bosque of Oaks, the University tree.

Collectively, the stadium streetscape and forecourt spaces integrate the public realm with that of Varsity Athletics and the larger campus. Although sufficient enough to accommodate the large gatherings of field events, the extended sidewalk spaces are a comfortable and safe space for casual, everyday use for all.
