We are delighted to share that DTAH founding Partner Robert Allsopp has been awarded the Governor General’s Medal, recognizing his lasting contributions to landscape architecture in Canada.

Robert’s distinguished career spans nearly seven decades with experience across Canada, England, the United States, and Spain. He has worked for nearly fifty years on projects in Canada’s National Capital, including Ceremonial Routes, Parliamentary and Judicial Precincts Long-Term Vision + Plan, National Military Commemoration Plan and more recently the Redevelopment Plan for Tunney’s Pasture, the Afghanistan Memorial in LeBreton Flats, and Centre Block. He has authored campus plans for universities and colleges across Canada and for the RCMP. In Toronto, Robert led a series of landmark projects at Fort York, played a key role in the city’s waterfront revitalization, and contributed to numerous urban design plans across the Region.

Throughout his career, Robert has committed to sharing his experience and stimulating creative thought through teaching and mentoring. Robert first taught at the University of Kansas and was instrumental in establishing Canada’s first Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) program at the University of Manitoba, where he led the first landscape architecture studio at the school. Robert subsequently taught as a full-time professor at the University of Toronto for 19 years.

Beyond project-based work and academia, Robert has contributed to other important aspects of public service. His extensive community work and advocacy is a wonderful example of his tireless, selfless efforts and enduring generosity.

We are humbled and grateful for his contributions to the growth and development of contemporary landscape architecture in Canada. Learn more about Robert’s career: https://www.csla-aapc.ca/awards/2026-governor-generals-medal-landscape-architecture
