UOIT/Durham College Campus

Placemaking with innovative stormwater management

The University of Ontario Institute of Technology is a campus for 10,000 students, located in Oshawa, north-east of Toronto. The campus is organized around a large central quadrangle and extends through more intimate garden courts and colonnades to the natural setting and parking.

Accredited with LEED Gold status, this sustainable campus integrates innovative stormwater management features throughout. Roof and stormwater are redirected for irrigation while storm water is moderated and cleansed through a system of sedimentation and wet ponds. Parking lot bio-swales collect and cleanse runoff as well as providing walkways and parking lot hedgerows. The planting design blends both ordered and naturalized landscape styles with a diverse selection of native materials.

DTAH’s commitment to both responsible and elegant stormwater management design is expressed in many of our landscape architecture projects, such as Southbrook Vineyard in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Evergreen Brick Works, Humber Bay Park and our ongoing work on Edgeley Pond and Park in Vaughan.
