Spadina, Rees and Simcoe WaveDecks
“The transformation of the heads of slip, starting with Spadina, gives the water’s edge back to the people, and connects and beautifies the waterfront for all Torontonians.” – Mike Wilson, Chair of Waterfront Toronto.
The wavedeck at the foot of Spadina Avenue, opened summer 2008, marked the beginning of the Central Waterfront Revitalization project. Since then, the team has followed up with installations at the foot of Rees Street and Simcoe.
There are seven wavedecks included in West 8 + DTAH’s award winning Toronto Central Waterfront Design Competition entry, stretching along the redesigned Queens Quay Boulevard from Bathurst to Parliament. They extend the public realm out over the lake in a playful imitation of the iconographic Canadian Shield shoreline.
